What Is Accepted

Household Hazardous Waste Only

  • Automotive Products -Antifreeze and Motor Oil- nonreturnable containers only
  • Car batteries and Mercury containing products (fluorescent tubes, thermometers, etc.)
  • Fire extinguishers; Fertilizer.
  • Herbicides and Fertilizers
  • Kerosene and Other Waste Fuels
  • Oil Based Paints, (no Latex Paint)
  • Oven, Toilet Bowl, and Drain Cleaners
  • Paint Strippers, Turpentine, and Solvents
  • Photographic Chemicals
  • Poisons and Pesticides
  • Swimming Pool Chemicals

What Is Not Accepted

  • Ammunition
  • Biohazardous Waste
  • Commercial or Industrial Wastes.
  • Explosives
  • Fireworks
  • Gas Cylinders
  • Latex Paint
  • Pathological Waste
  • Radioactive Waste
  • Sealed Lead Acid Batteries
  • Smoke Detectors
  • Tires

Additional Information

  • 20 pounds propane tanks - $ 20 fee, check only.
  • Motor oil is limited to 12 quarts per carload.
  • Commercial fluorescent lighting (including Tanning Bed lights) is not accepted

This Household Hazardous Waste Event on June 17th is open to all Methuen residents. Residents of communities participating in the Northeast Region 3 reciprocal HHW agreement are also welcome to drop off materials during the collection's final hour between 11 am and noon.

If you can't make June 17th, Don't Despair! Methuen participates in the Northeast Region 3 communities' reciprocal HHW agreement organized by MassDEP. Methuen Residents can drop off household hazardous materials at any of the collection day events in nearby communities which participate in the regional HHW reciprocal agreement.
